In the European Union there is aclear gender bias in the transport sector with less than 25%of women in jobs, which drops to less than 14% if we talk about land transport, and less than 6% in the case of leadership positions according to data from the European Commission. In Spain the situation is similar, with the majority of companies with less than 10% of women in the work team and with rates of 2 and 3% in male-dominated positions such as maintenance workshops or driving positions. This clear male dominance in the sector has imposed anandrocentric perspective on public space, mobility and urban logistics, completely marginalising the perspective of the mobility of care, which after all is what sustains life and is the majority.
From the point of view of people's mobility, there is a dissociation between private motorised modes, which require a wealthy socio-economic position and where most of the users are men, and pedestrian, cycling and public transport mobility, where most of the demand comes from women. Thus, the 2006 Movilia survey indicated that in Spain, the modal share of active mobility and public transport among women reached 65% and dropped to 47% among men. These are data for which there is no continuous statistical series and which highlight the lack ofdata formonitoring the social dimension of mobility. This type of data would also be useful to estimate the causes of (in)mobility from an intersectional gender perspective and to make visible the barriers thatprevent women frommoving in certain contexts and stages of the life cycle.
To strengthen the presence of women in mobility, as workers and main users, and to promote integrated systems of mobility, transport and urban planning that do not perpetuate situations of inequality associated with gender in these areas. It also aims to achieve gender equity in the mobility and transport sector by focusing its strategy on feminist policies in these areas.
Creation of the Mujeres en Movimiento España network, which is configured as the local network of the Ibero-American initiative Mujeres en Movimiento. It is a horizontal organization, made up of diverse women from different disciplines and fields of knowledge.
