The Nursery Pavilion has been created to provide shelter whilst promoting the normality of breastfeeding. With a ‘baby bump’ inspired form, the pavilion serves multiple levels of educational information, whilst the integral structure figuratively elevates the needs of children as high priority. The design team drew inspiration from the pillars of society, as a metaphor to inform and inspire. The space within is well-suited for parents to both feed and attend to their children, allowing families to have quality time together. The pavilion’s green living roof softens and blurs the overall form in contrast with a harsh city environment whilst providing a haven for natural wildlife to be enjoyed, as a further metaphor for the beauty of nature. The planting are seasonal, creating opportunity to introduce a wider array of wildlife forming natural ecosystems unusual to an urban landscape, furthering its pursuit towards educating and normalising nature within the society.

Ron, please will you add narrative about how this might be experienced? For instance, how many occupants at one time? Where might additional items go/wait? Such as stroller/buggy?
The sidewalls of the lovely form appear to be solid. Is this intended to have interior ambient lighting or if the surface translucent? aNd if so, how do you expect this to be experienced on shorter winter days?
