Overview

  • Location: Paris, France
  • Year: 2016
  • Initiator: Informal group of women

Background

The Girls on Wheels is an informal group of Parisian women who organize communal rides in the City of Paris every Wednesday night.

Goal

Their objective is to create a safe space for women, promote biking and develop solidarity actions to support women who bike and face harassment and discrimination while practicing this sport or working in this sector.

Measure

Every week a different path is chosen and labelled according to its level: green for easier routes (18km/h); orange for slightly longer and more demanding routes (20km/h); and finally red, for longer journeys with higher elevation (30 km/h)

Outcome

A lot of bike rides organized, growing number of members and a safe space for women bikers!
