Initiatives
France: Sexist harassment and sexual violence in transport: National Awareness Raising Campaign
COSIMA MALANDRINO
Overview
- Location: France
- Year: 2015
- Initiator: Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Women Rights
Background
Initiated in November 2015 by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Women Rights, the national campaign highlighted the refusal to accept sexist harassment in transportation as acceptable behavior
Goal
Its objectives were to remind the consequences to such actions as prescribed by the law and give keys for action and reaction to everyone in these situations through a communication device.
Measure
This device included :
- Tools to raise awareness of transportation users together with the implementation a poster campaign (4x3, digital panels...) in the subways, train stations and public transportation of several large urban centers and with the deployment of a clip video on sharing platforms to reach in particular the youngest. Three posters, designed to appeal to users when they are on the move, were deployed with the words of an aggressor, the thoughts and feelings of victim, and those of a witness of gender-based harassment and violence;
- Teaching aids to raise awareness of possible reactions and actions in situations of harassment, with the dedicated space women.gouv.fr/harassment, under form of texts, computer graphics, and with an interactive video.
