Overview

  • Location: Plentzia, Leioa, Santurce, Sestao, Tarazona, Jérez de la Frontera, Spain
  • Year: 2018
  • Initiator: Santurce City Council

Goal

Home accompaniment service during the main festivities to avoid sexual harassment and threatens to women in the street at night.

Measure

Many city councils in Spain have implemented the accompaniment services created by the Santurce City Council in 2018. The police and a security company have worked together to accompany women home after a party night.

A meeting point close to the party area was chosen. Once there, women were registered and accompanied back home. For the more remote neighbourhoods a bus with a watchman brought users (men and women) home. The stops were on demand to bring users as close as possible to their destination.

Many other municipalities have implemented this measure during the celebration of the main festivities to provide safety and security to women.
