Design Brief: Enhancing Accessibility in Transit for Cognitive Impairments
Project Title:Accessible Journeys
Challenge Addressed:
Public transport systems often lack features that support people with cognitive impairments, leading to difficulties in navigating, understanding information, and feeling confident when traveling.
Objective:
To improve accessibility in transit environments by designing solutions specifically for individuals with cognitive impairments, ensuring they can travel safely, independently, and with dignity.
Proposed Solution Direction:
Based on lived experience with transport barriers, this project will explore new ways to make journeys more understandable and manageable—through improved signage, staff training, digital tools, or in-person support options.
Target Users:
People with cognitive impairments who may need clearer, simpler, and more supportive transit experiences.
Design Goal:
Create a system or service that removes barriers and actively supports cognitive accessibility at every stage of a transit journey
Lived experience is the key here. Too often, people's lived experiences are overlooked or simply omitted from key decision making processes. The most impacted and relevant people are often not in the room when decisions are made about transport and infrastructure. How can we address this thorugh this proposed system or service?
